The Numbers
August 1st, 2020
The amount of diagnoses and prescriptions for ADHD have been rising. What is interesting is the prescriptions have been increasing at a faster rate.
Rises in Diagnosis and Prescriptions
According to the CDC, all 50 states in the United States of America have seen an increase in prescription prevalence for ADHD. This indicates a culture that has seen a larger basis of prescription drugs administered to patients, which further strengthens the argument for a need of an extensive screening procedure that can help aid in better administrating ADHD drugs.

Chart
Demonstrates cases over time. Ranges from 1997 to 2017. The data indicates that ADHD diagnoses have increased, but these diagnoses are reported by parents, and so some of these diagnoses may be false positives. Instead, providing a standardized screening procedure would help to properly diagnose individuals to assess for proper treatment.
